Using dashboard to prepare for games

One of the interesting facts I’ve been researching is using the CCAA Stats Dashboard ( web link ) to get intel on teams that I might officiate. For example, with a REF assignment on BV Nipomo HS vs. BV Orcutt Academy Charter, you could pull stats dashboard for both teams.  See dashboard graphic below (bottom of email).  You will note in first 4 weeks of season, both teams would have high card count (10, 13) and one instance of coach challenges. How to use this information?  FIFA level games have advanced reports on all teams covering stats, misconduct, and attacking-defending metrics.  We don’t have this but the above metrics suggest a style of play that match officials can use to anticipate match temperature and game control challenges.  Although we wouldn’t use this to bias calls during a game, understanding patterns would suggest that should match temperature rise early, interventions would be even more important to implement on a timely basis compared to wai...

Tips to help submit game reports

Our goal is to help make game reporting as easy as possible, and we have evolved significantly over the last few months.  Definitely not perfect.  Yes, there are still some glitches, but we're moving forward. The Games Reporting platform ( link to web application ) works well on internet browsers, and okay on phones.  Will be working on the next major update to improve use of phone to enter data.  I will be creating a "bugs" page and adding to blog links. We're up to a 95% rate of success getting you connected  with email account, accessing application, and loading/saving game reports.  Again, reach out if you're having problems and I'll try to work with you. Blow are quick tips to help you submit your game reports 1. You must create an account to use the application. * For new users, use the Sign In page on the application:  Enter email, password, and confirm password. * Press Sign Up * A follow-up email will be sent from lpsra@lpsra-game-summar...

Update on Games Reports Submitted (as of Dec 15, 2023)

Image
Our games reported metric has increased to >60%, up from 40% over the last two weeks.  Thank you getting your game reports submitted. Here's the latest data:  See graphic below (or on  link to dashboard ); As a reminder, game information, behavior assessments (coach, spectators), match notes, and incidents & misconduct is recorded for each game and loaded into game reports.  This data is being communicated and exported to CIF Central Section on a weekly basis, as it is a requirement of competition (CCAA working within CIF CS) and a requirement of contract (LPSRA with CCAA).  Athletic directors within our local  CCAA have adopted the Purple Card process, and the data being gathered on behavior and purple card offenses is being communicated to the CCAA.

Purple Card Process Learnings over the first weeks

Image
Team, thank you again for the adoption of and helping ramp up our successful implementation of the process.  More of the referees have signed into the system, game reports are being loaded into the system, and data is flowing well into reporting dashboard. I wanted to reflect on the many observations and learnings of our efforts as you are making a big change in setting the standards of competition for the Central Coast. Purple Card Process has been adopted by schools/teams * The process has been consistently rolled out across all 16 schools where coaches and spectators know about the intent of the program, and the actions we take as match officials to maintain standards of behavior.  With chances for further clarification during pre-match coach check-ins with referees, we have done a good job rolling out the process. * The message is spreading fast ... teams from outside CCAA have heard of the process and our intent! * I've heard of multiple events (first two weeks of ...

CCAA Metrics Dashboard Published

Image
Team, I've created a new dashboard to share data from the CCAA-CIF Game Reports and Purple Card process. Link to Dash Board CCAA Stats Dashboard * All behavior assessment (coach and spectator) captured for each game report. * aggregate summary of cards (YC, RC, PC) for players, coaches, and spectators * Note: all card data is submitted to CIF Central section to comply with their reporting requirement. Game Reports Submitted/Due * Lead metric to show % of game reports submitted based upon completed games. * Reminder table established for referees of match to submit reports and note which gaems need to be submitted. * Left table show % games submitted by Team (note: not all games are counted as all tournaments are listed as TBA team's instead of actual team names). Misconduct Reports * List of all incidents and misconduct captured during 2023-24 CIF season. * Drilldown available by Team.
